Palomar Promise - Important Info for Seniors
Posted 5/3/19
  1. PAY ATTENTION to emails Palomar College is sending you - the excuse of "I didn't know" is not valid because of a student's lack of follow-through.
  2. SENIORS - look at your Palomar Student Center through My Palomar link on the face page of Palomar College (Uppermost link on the page) and COMPLETE your To-Do items
  3. PALOMAR PROMISE is a first-come, first-served basis this year and is based on students ACTUALLY ENROLLING in 12 or more units, so determination of receiving the Promise from Palomar will take place after students enroll.  The earlier students enroll for classes, the higher the likelihood of receiving the Palomar Promise.  That means it's not too late for students to apply to Palomar and the Promise!
  4. SIGN - UP for Discover Palomar at  Discover Palomar on either Friday, May 31, or Saturday, June 1, to meet with a counselor and register for classes. (This is not mandatory, only a resource to help students. Students will be given a day and time to register for classes in their student center if they feel comfortable registering for classes on their own.  HOWEVER, it is mandatory for students to meet with a counselor, so they can choose to schedule a one-on-one appt. at (760)744-1150, ext. 3931 on a different day and time than the Discover Palomar dates/times.)
  5. Because of the possibility of receiving a second year of tuition for free in all CA Community Colleges, the financial aid award link (found in student's portal - Student Center tab in My Palomar- View Financial Aid Link) is undergoing some changes.  Right now, students may have a reflection of a CCPG amount as an award - that is the CA Community College Promise Grant (the old BOG Waiver) and is not to be confused with the actual Palomar Promise, which is additional funding if student's are awarded.   Once on the 'View Financial Aid' link, students need to click on the year 2020 to view aid.  On this page, there is an additional link to view Financial Aid Summary.  This is something new that the community colleges are doing, so more info to come about the meaning of all the numbers :)
  6. Patience is a virtue - as with anything that is new to the system, there will be glitches and misunderstandings, but hopefully the CA Community College Systems will be in sync across the board and students should be able to attend any community college of choice throughout the state and qualify for funding to receive college for free for a possible two year time frame.  Again, more news to follow.
  7. SENIORS - LOOK INSIDE YOUR SENIOR PACKETS MR. SCHINDLER HANDED OUT FOR INFO ABOUT COMPLETING YOUR SENIOR SURVEY (MANDATORY & CURRENTLY OPEN) & FINAL TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS (REQUIRED FOR ALL COLLEGES - 2 OR 4-YEAR).  THERE IS A DEADLINE FOR THIS - AND AGAIN - THE EXCUSE OF "I DIDN'T KNOW' IS NOT VALID BECAUSE OF A STUDENT'S LACK OF FOLLOW-THROUGH!
