AP Human Geography is a yearlong course that focuses on the study of human populations and their impact on the physical geography of the planet. Emphasis is placed on human and environmental interaction, globalization, and cultural diversity. Case studies from around the globe are used to develop knowledge and skills. Focus is on preparation for the College Board AP Human Geography exam.

World History is a yearlong survey course for 10th graders that is designed to give students insight into what it means to be a part of the larger human story, and what their place is in that story. The course will emphasize a global perspective along with historic themes of democracy, revolution, imperialism, nationalism, world conflict, and modern issues. Many approaches, including personalized and inquiry based learning, one-to-one technology, and collaboration, will be implemented. Students will gain a strong foundation in geographic literacy, research skills, critical thinking, problem solving, and oral and written communication. This course allows students the opportunity to gain the knowledge and understanding to take an active role as responsible citizens of our global society. Note: All World History students must complete 10 hours of community service as part of course requirements.

This course is a yearlong study of the philosophical and Constitutional foundations of United States government and a practical analysis of how the government works today. While foundational principles are addressed, the emphasis on the course is in gaining a practical understanding of current government institutions, partisan politics, and public policy. In addition, course will integrate the California Economics Standards to fulfill course requirement. The yearlong course is designed to prepare students who wish to take the AP Government Exam. The economics portion will be taught in relation to American Government:public policy, fiscal and monetary policy, circular flow of economics in order to prepare students for the AP exam. In addition to coursework, six (6) community participation credits are required per semester to earn a passing grade in this course. * Please note: Only the 1st semester of this course is weighted on a 5.0 grading scale, the second semester will be Economics, weighted on a 4.0 grading scale. This is a year long course.

This intensive college preparatory study of 20th century World history/diplomacy/economics and Latin American history prepares students for the IB exam. In addition to coursework, six (6) community participation credits are required per semester to earn a passing grade in this course. An individual research project is required. This course is a yearlong course. If you drop this course at the semester, you are required to complete both American Government and Economics.
This is the second year of the IB History Sequence.

Course will cover social and political history of the United States between 1950-2000 as seen through the lens of music and the musicians of the times. Musical genres ranges from blues to rockabilly to punk to heavy metal to hip-hop. Emphasis is placed on significant historical events such as the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War and the impact of U.S. foreign policy. Students will be instructed through the use of primary source documents, lyric analysis, music, original video clips and reflective discussions. Assessments include projects, analysis and interpretation, and reflective writings.

This Ethnic Studies course will examine the history, cultures, politics, and sociological status of Native Americans, Asian Americans, African Americans, and Latino Americans through from the beginning of the 20th century to present day. In addition, students will consider the short and long-term impact of race, prejudice, and discrimination in U.S. history and culture, but will also examine the strides made legislatively and socially to create positive changes within the United States.

The HL Psychology course is to offer students a second year of study that would be needed to fulfill the requirements for the IB Diploma Program while also allowing other students to continue studies in the field of Psychology in possible preparation for the Higher Level External Test. The IB Diploma Program, for students aged 16 to 19, is an academically challenging and balanced program of education that prepares students for success at university and life beyond. Students take courses in six different subject groups, maintaining both breadth and depth of study. Psychology higher level is in group 3, individuals and societies. HL2 will give students an understanding in one of the additional option areas (Sports Psychology, Human Relationships, Developmental Psychology, or Health Psychology. Additional work will also be completed in a Higher Level Internal Assessment and Qualitative data unit, and substantial review from the previous years study in preparation for the Higher Level Examination.
