Quantitative Reasoning

Grade Level: 9 RBV Graduation: Math UC/CSU A-G: None

Prerequisite: None

This course will focus on the mathematical practice standards and developing habits of mind to think in terms of mathematical processes. Moreover, the course will empower students to be confident problem solvers. The course will also follow the Common Core frame work for high school level intervention and support of high school students with prior knowledge gaps or learning challenges. In this context students will be taught base level knowledge of logic, modeling with and of mathematics, arithmetic properties, geometric properties and statistical and probability reasoning. This course is designed as a support class for students to master skills prior to Integrated Math 1.

Integrated Math 1

Grade Level: 9-12 RBV Graduation: Math UC/CSU A-G: "C'

Prerequisite: None

This is a year-long course Integrated Math 1 is designed to combine some of the basic principles of Algebra I, Geometry, and Statistics. Topics include Linear and Exponential functions, Rigid Transformation and Constructions, Interpreting and Analyzing Univariate and Bivariate data. The Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practices will be addressed throughout the course.

Integrated Math 2

Grade Level: 10-12 RBV Graduation: Math UC/CSU A-G: "C'

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Integrated Math 1 or its equivalent

Integrated Math 2 is designed to combine some of the intermediate principles of Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra 2 and Probability. Topics include Quadratic Functions, Similarity and Congruence, Circles, Basic Trigonometric Functions and Probability. The Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practices will be addressed throughout the course.

Integrated Math 2 with Math Analysis

Grade Level: 10-12 RBV Graduation: Math UC/CSU A-G: "C'

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Integrated Math 1 or its equivalent

Integrated 2 with Math Analysis is a course designed to cover the Integrated 2 Common Core Standards in their entirety as well as cover some Math Analysis (PreCalculus) needed for Calculus. This is the second course in a three-year pathway preparing students to take BC Calculus or AB Calculus. Students will be challenged to grow in their mathematical language skills through class discussions, projects, activities, word problems and presentations.

Integrated Math 3

Grade Level: 11-12 RBV Graduation: Math UC/CSU A-G: "C'

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Integrated Math 2 or its equivalent

Integrated Math 3 is designed to combine some of the advanced principles of Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra 2 and Probability. Topics include Polynomials, Comparing Linear, Quadratic, Logarithmic and Exponential Functions, Trigonometric Functions and Introductory Statistical Inference. The Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practices will be addressed throughout the course.

Integrated Math 3 with Math Analysis

Grade Level: 11-12 RBV Graduation: Math UC/CSU A-G: "C'

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Integrated Math 2 with Math Analysis, Integrated 2 or its equivalent

Integrated 3 with Math Analysis is a course designed to cover the Integrated 3 Common Core Standards in their entirety as well as cover some Math Analysis (PreCalculus) needed for Calculus. This is the third course in a three-year pathway preparing students to take BC Calculus or AB Calculus. Students will be challenged to grow in their mathematical language skills through class discussions, projects, activities, word problems and presentations.

Financial Algebra

Grade Level: 11-12 RBV Graduation: Math UC/CSU A-G: "C'

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Integrated 1 and Integrated 2 or its equivalent

Financial Algebra with Applications is a mathematical modeling course that is algebra-based, applications-oriented, and technology-dependent. The course addresses college preparatory mathematics topics under seven financial umbrellas: Banking, Investing, Credit, Employment and Income Taxes, Automobile Ownership, Independent Living, and Retirement Planning and Household Budgeting. The course allows students to experience the interrelatedness of mathematical topics, find patterns, make conjectures, and extrapolate from known situations to unknown situations. Students are encouraged to use a variety of problem-solving skills and strategies in real-world contexts, and to question outcomes using mathematical analysis and data to support their findings.

IB Math Studies SL
